What this is

Poison Phenibut is an independent educational project about the health risks of two unregulated substances sold as "supplements": phenibut and kratom. Its goal is to make accurate, primary-source-backed public-health information easy to find for people who might otherwise encounter only marketing copy.

Independence & funding

This is a self-directed, non-commercial project. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the CDC, FDA, DEA, SAMHSA, or any government agency, university, or healthcare organization. It sells nothing, runs no ads, and has no financial relationship with sellers of these substances. It also has no financial interest in treatment providers.

How content is sourced

Health and regulatory claims are cited, inline, to primary sources wherever possible — CDC MMWR surveillance data, FDA regulatory documents and warnings, DEA actions, and peer-reviewed literature — with news reporting used only where it is the accessible record of a primary analysis. Each substance page lists its full references. We try to distinguish established findings from case reports, observational data, and genuine uncertainty, and we hedge claims the sources don't fully support.

Review status & limitations

The content is compiled and edited from these public sources. It has not undergone independent clinical peer review, and it is not medical advice. Where the site includes illustrative stories, they are clearly labeled as fictional composites, not real people. Statistics are quoted with their surveillance caveats (for example, poison-center "exposures" are reported calls, not confirmed diagnoses).

Dates

Project published: March 2025. Content last reviewed and updated: July 19, 2026. We aim to recheck regulatory status, poison-center figures, and emergency resources periodically, since these change.

Corrections

If you find an error or an out-of-date figure, please use the contact form on the main page. We correct substantive errors and update the review date when we make a meaningful change.
